Will bleach get rid of bed bugs?

Can completely spraying everything down with bleach take care of an infestation?

Editor Response

No. Bleach isn't a bed bug treatment, it won't reach bugs and eggs hidden in cracks, and it can damage fabrics and furniture. The CDC also warns not to use bleach where pesticides have been applied, because it can turn some pesticides into more toxic compounds. What works is a combination of steps: hot-dryer laundering, steaming, vacuuming, mattress encasements, EPA-registered products labeled for bed bugs, and follow-up checks.
