About the Bed Bugs Handbook

The Bed Bugs Handbook was launched in March 2009, at the start of the modern bed bug resurgence, when homeowners, renters and travelers had few reliable places to turn. Our goal hasn't changed: plain-English, practical guidance on identifying bed bugs, dealing with bites, and getting rid of an infestation, at home or on the road.

Who we are

Jeff Grill, Editor. Jeff has run the Bed Bugs Handbook since its launch and writes and edits its guides. Jeff is not a doctor or a licensed pest control operator, which is why every health and treatment claim on this site is checked against the sources described below.

We're based in New York, where bed bug problems in apartments, hotels and schools have been part of daily life for years. Over the years we've answered hundreds of reader questions, and those questions continue to shape what we write.

How we research and review our content

• Authoritative sources. Our guides are built on public health and scientific sources, including the CDC, EPA, the American Academy of Dermatology, the NHS, peer-reviewed medical and entomology journals, and university extension programs.
• Numbered references. Key facts are linked to a numbered source list at the bottom of each page, so you can check them yourself.
• Fact-checking. Before a guide is published or updated, its claims are checked against the cited sources, and anything a source doesn't support is corrected or removed.
• Review dates. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. We update pages as guidance changes.
• Corrections. If you spot an error, please contact us and we'll review it promptly.
