How Long Does a Bed Bug Itch Last?

by Tiameria
(Texas, Grandprarie)

I've been itching from bed bugs for 6 or 7 days after I spent a night at my friend's house. The next day I woke up itching. I just want a quick remedy!

Hi Tiameria,

Most bed bug bites fade in about a week, and the itch can last up to two weeks, so day 6 or 7 is within the normal range. Unfortunately, no treatment has been shown to make bites heal faster, but you can ease the itch: wash the bites with soap and water, hold a cool, damp cloth on them, and try an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion. Ask a pharmacist about an oral antihistamine, and follow the label.

See a doctor if the bites aren't better after a week or gone after two, if they look infected, or if you get new bites, which would mean you may have brought bugs home. See our guides to how long bed bug bites last and treating bed bug bites.
