Bed bugs at work

by Lee
(Nashua )

Bedbugs in my place of work and I'm a little freaked out about it because I don't want to bring them home. They have only sprayed once they do not take proper precautions they didn't bag up all the clothes and wash them what do I do now.

Editor Response

Hi Lee,

I completely understand your anxiety; feeling unsafe at work due to an infestation is incredibly stressful, especially when the treatment plan seems inadequate. You are right to be concerned, as a single spray without proper preparation (like bagging and washing fabrics) is rarely enough to eliminate an infestation completely. Chemical treatments usually require a follow-up visit to catch any eggs that hatch after the first round.

Since you cannot force your employer to change their methods, you must focus on defensive measures to protect your home. While at work, keep your purse, backpack, or coat sealed inside a plastic bin or a large, heavy-duty Ziploc bag. Do not place your belongings on the floor or upholstered furniture. When you arrive home, strip off your work clothes immediately and place them directly into the dryer on high heat for at least 30 minutes before washing; this heat will kill both bugs and eggs. Leave your work shoes outside or inspect the soles carefully before bringing them inside.

Best of Luck,
